2019 Ode

An ode to the magnificent wines of Brunello di Montalcino.

Covington Cellars was founded because of a passion for Italian wines, so it’s only natural that we produce our version of them. David is a huge fan of Brunello-style wines and wanted to make a wine that pays tribute to the Italian Brunello's he’s come to love.

In Italy, for a wine to be a Brunello, it must be 100% Sangiovese Grossa and spend at least 36 months in barrel, and 1 year in bottle prior to release. So that is exactly what we’ve done here, and therefore why we called it Ode: an Ode to Bruno.

David first conceptualized this wine during the 2006 vintage, and it is released in small quantities each year. It has developed a strong following with our wine club members. Because Sangiovese is naturally one of the last grapes to be harvested, plus its lengthy time in barrel and bottle, it’s allowed the wine to soften and become one of the premier Sangioveses in Washington State.

“The aromas bring notes of vanilla bean, raspberry, cranberry, and cocoa, mixing fruit and barrel. Full-bodied, smooth flavors follow, with the tannins giving a light grip, made slightly firmer by the variety’s acidity. It’s lovely, with the feel bringing as much appeal as the flavor.”
